The Uncanny is a project that seeks to provide a greater understanding of what is "uncanny." In 1919 Sigmund Freud wrote his essay of the same name, in which he stated that the uncanny arises when an emotional impulse that we have repressed returns to our consciousness, triggered by some inexplicable sight or experience, and frightens us. This project explores the three chapters of Freud's essay through example and definition, and presents a complete thesis of what is "uncanny." The imagery featured in this project aims to take something ordinary and familiar, and make it disruptive and strange, in order for the viewer to gain a comprehensive knowledge of The Uncanny.
